Hamlet’s Attitude Toward Life

Please respond to both prompts below.

1.  Whenever Hamlet thinks about life in general, his mind turns to thoughts of rank gardens, sickening diseases, decaying corpses.  He even refers to Denmark as a prison.  Discuss why Hamlet feels as he does about life, and include those characters who seem to make him feel this way.  (Question modified from Teaching Shakespeare, Arthur Mizener, ed., 1969.)

2.  What is your favorite quote from Hamlet so far (through Act 3)?  Quote it here and explain why you like it.  Be sure to list act, scene, and line number (example:  2.1.28-29).

When you post a comment, only use your first name and last initial.
